The role

Direct Services is the operational arm of Oxford City council and undertake all aspects of building maintenance and built environment upkeep. The role supports these activities across the service to maintain best practice in asbestos management and activities

Ideally the successful applicant will be versatile, keen, and flexible, have good communication skills, both written and verbal and have good attention to detail.

Will be conversant with surveying and analysis lab activities and at the same time have the acumen to manage the laboratory and office effectively.

Role purpose

  • Responsible for ensuring safe surveying, sampling and analysis of asbestos containing products within Oxford City Council stock working with Managers, workforce and stakeholders to provide an all round service.

 

Role responsibilities and main duties

  • Carry out surveys and analysis of suspected bulk samples and update the online asbestos register for Oxford City Council stock
  • Support and advise all aspects of the business in surveying and recording of surveys in relation to asbestos register
  • Maintain all record keeping as required to provide assurance and evidence best practice on asbestos surveying, sampling, analysis and waste handling including liaison with the Environment Agency on records.
  • Monitor guide and audit both internal workforce and external contractors on Asbestos related matters and report on findings as required and directed
  • Maintain lab standards to ISO 17025
  • Maintain the internal administrative processes in relation to asbestos management and recording of waste through the skip.
